If you want to buy a dog, there are some things you should take under consideration. I personally think there is a dog for every family, BUT there's (that's a big but, ain't it?) something called time. If you don't have it, don't get one. Every dog needs time. When you have kids nagging about wanting to have one, most of the time you'll be taking care of the dog yourself. Luckily it's not always so, but sometimes it is.
My wife and I have 2 dogs, a Teckel (Lizzie: named after Miss Elisabeth Taylor) and a crossing between a Danish Dog and a Golden Retriever (Bageera: named after the Black Panter in Jungle Book, he's totally black). These two dogs are perfect for our family. Why? Well, a Teckel has a lot of character and spirit and we like that. This dog is also very family minded. She's a little scared of strangers, but when she gets to know you a little better, she's is very nice. Bageera is another story. They say how bigger the dog, the nicer they are. Well, I can speak from experience, it's true. He is the nicest dog. The only minor thing about him is that he can run you over. He doesn't know his own size and strenght. He also needs a lot of space to run. We have a big garden, so he can run till he drops.
Now, for you to decide which dog to buy. Try to harvest all of the info you can get your hands on about the ras you want to buy. It is crucial for the dog and yourself. You have books, the internet, maybe you know people who have a dog. Also know that a dog costs money. Food, shots, ... You don't want to put your dog somewhere just because you didn't think things through.
If you take these things under consideration, you will have a compagnon for several years.
This is my first blog and I hope the things I wrote make some sence.
